Gunner, a 10-year-old Boxer mix, started having trouble with his back legs in October and November of 2023. At first, his vet thought it was arthritis in his hips. Over the next six months, his condition slowly got worse. Eventually, he lost control of his back legs. He began knuckling more often and sometimes dragged himself out of bed. Hardwood and tile floors made it even harder for him to walk. He often slipped and fell, which made him nervous and anxious. Gunner became so scared of falling that he refused to leave carpeted areas. Someone had to help guide him across smooth floors. His knuckling got so bad that he wore special socks to protect his feet. The socks also helped him feel more confident on slippery floors. A previous vet had diagnosed him with Degenerative Myelopathy, but after reviewing his x-rays, the official diagnosis was Spondylosis.
Treatment:
Gunner started treatment in January of 2024 with laser therapy three times a week. His family noticed some improvement, but they knew he still needed more help. They took him to another veterinary clinic where he received a chiropractic adjustment and acupuncture. Gunner responded so well that his family decided to look for a clinic that offered those types of treatments regularly. Not long after, Holistic Pet Care Center had the pleasure of meeting Gunner and his family.
He began receiving chiropractic care, acupuncture, and prolotherapy. His mobility has greatly improved. In fact, he can now walk on his own with very little help! Gunner has also regained his confidence. He now visits regularly for chiropractic adjustments, which continue to help. After each visit, he always has some extra pep in his step!
Supplements and Medications:
Several supplements have helped Gunner recover and improve. These include: Standard Process Ligaplex II, Standard Process Orchex, and Standard Process VF Hemp Oil. He also takes Vitamin E, Cordyceps, and Lion’s Mane. On tougher days, when he needs more pain relief, he takes Gabapentin and Robaxin, a muscle relaxer.
Quality of Life:
“Gunner remains gentle and loyal,” his family says. “He is the greatest companion and we are so grateful that he has regained his mobility.”
Gunner’s quality of life has improved greatly. His family believes that without these treatments to boost his activity, they would have lost him years ago. He still has some tough days, but overall, he is HAPPY and THRIVING!!!!
